TV cameras might add 10 pounds but it wasn’t being cast on Bachelor in Paradise that prompted Tanner Tolbert to lose weight. That motivation came when the former Bachelorette contestant learned he was going to be a dad.

“Being healthy is one thing when you’re single and you want to look good at the pool,” says the reality star, who lost 20 pounds using Nutrisystem, and has partnered with the brand to spread the word about good health. “But when you have kids, it takes on a new meaning. You want to be there for them as long as possible, but you also want to be able to do things with them. You don’t want to be lethargic and just sitting on the sidelines. You want to be a part of it.”

Tolbert and his wife, Jade Roper Tolbert, met on the second season of Bachelor in Paradise and married in 2016. Their daughter Emmy was born in 2017 and they are expecting their second child, a boy, later this year.

“The first kid I had no idea what I was doing,” he says. “We kind of just figured it out as we went. Now that I’ve been there once, I think, I hope, it’s going to be easier.”

Tolbert admits he felt some “dad guilt” when his previous job as an auto sales manager took him away from his family for more than 55 hours a week, and that was the driving force behind deciding to pursue a career as a social media influencer.  “It was hard missing all those moments with Emmy,” he says. “Now that I’m home every day I get to see those firsts and enjoy all those little moments.”
